Catch This: A Thunder Bay Border Cats Game this Summer

Hey batter batter!  The stands are open and the ballpark is calling! There’s nothing more iconic than a baseball game in the summer— and the Thunder Bay Border Cats deliver everything you want from the seasonal experience and then some.

A golden summer evening, the smell of buttery fresh popcorn in the air, the announcer’s voice echoing over Port Arthur Stadium,  and you’re sitting back with a cold drink, a classic ballpark hot dog in hand— it’s a definite must.

If you haven’t been to a Border Cats game yet this season, it’s time to fix that. Whether you’re a die-hard baseball fan or someone who only goes to the games for snacks and walk-up songs (no shame!), these games deliver. Trust us…it’s a far cry from your friendly neighbourhood ball game.  This year’s team features a mix of new and returning college-level players from across North America, and the talent on the field is legit (watching professional players in action is always impressive).

One of the best things about Border Cats games?  They’re open and welcoming to fans of all ages, making it a perfect activity whether you’re flying solo, with the squad, or brining the whole fam.  Friends, nieces, that summer fling— you can even bring your dog if they’re hosting a Bark in the Park night. The Kids Zone is perfect if you’re wrangling the littles (hello, bouncy castles and ice cream), but if your just hanging with the crew, grab a seat in the grandstands and enjoy. Nothing brings everyone together quite like rooting for the home team!

Let’s not forget the stadium food that is a huge part of the experience. There’s your classic lineup of hot dogs, burgers and fries, popcorn, sweet treats, and keep an eye out for Taco Tuesday, aka tacos in a bag (an elite snack if there ever was one). And don’t forget about Weenie Wednesday, that’s 2-for-1 hotdogs!

Need a souvenir? Hit up the Cat Shack for team gear and merch so you can show off your love for the cats all season long.

Let’s not forget that Port Arthur Stadium itself is a total gem. A throwback to the golden era of baseball with some real Thunder Bay history and  old school classic charm. There’s even some wild history here, like back in the day when the New York Bengals came to play, and it’s been home to Thunder Bay legends ever since. On July 30th, catch a retro night as the Cats suit up as the Whiskey Jacks, paying tribute to the former TBay team from the 90’s (a great spot to watch this game is the new Whiskey Jacks Nest Rooftop Bar).

Worried about the cost? Don’t be. Unlike big league stadium games, a night at the ballpark won’t break the bank. General admission for adults starts at $17 and kids ages 4 to 12 only $6.00! Plus food and drinks onsite are really affordable as well!

Grab your cap, rally your friends and head to the stadium! Boomer’s waiting (don’t miss his birthday bash on July 13th featuring all his mascot friends!) Tickets and the full season schedule can be found at: northwoodsleague.com/thunder-bay-border-cats

LET’S GO CATS!
