If you’re looking for the kind of event that gives you goosebumps and leaves your camera roll full of “did that seriously just happen!?” moments, head to one of Thunder Bay’s biggest street parties! The Buskers Festival is back, and it’s turning ten years old.
On July 26th and 27th, the Bay & Algoma neighbourhood will transform into a festival playground packed with jaw-dropping performances, weird and wonderful characters, and all-ages fun (you can literally stand a foot away from a fire-eater).
What started a decade ago as a handful of performers and a big idea has become a nationally recognized street festival that punches way above its weight. It’s got big city energy, but it’s grounded in neighbourhood pride. Think jugglers, sword-swallowers, whip crackers, comedians, musicians, and acrobats, all performing live, up close, and completely free to watch.
This year’s lineup is the biggest yet, and if you’ve ever wanted to see something that feels straight out of a Netflix circus doc, this is your chance. Here are just a few of the acts:
Steve Goodtime – You might’ve caught him on America’s Got Talent. He’s a true circus renegade with rockstar energy, and a comedic streak that will have you crying laughing while he shreds on a guitar… on a unicycle.
Seb & Fritzzz – A German whip performer and a beatbox champion walk onto a street corner…what happens next? Fire whip duels, wild rhythm battles, and a finale that’s straight-up explosive.
Kazimir the Hungry – Yes, he eats glass. Yes, he breathes fire. And yes, he’s been featured by Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Kazimir’s act is equal parts terrifying and mesmerizing.
Fraser Hooper – A legendary clown who’s toured 40+ countries. His show involves stunt ducks, human fish, eccentric dancing, and the silliest boxing match you have ever seen. Think Mr. Bean meets Cirque du Soleil.
But it’s not just about the headliners… Buskers Festival has always been about local TBay love and that hasn’t changed. From OG acts like Eric the Juggler to the Bay Street Bastards (who got their start busking here and now perform on the main stage), the fest keeps its roots close.
What’s new for year 10?
And it’s not just the festival celebrating a milestone bday, neighbourhood staples like The Cheese Encounter, The Nook, and Wojo’s Mojo are also hitting the 10 year mark. Make sure you visit the local shops while in the area as Bay & Algoma has evolved into one of Thunder Bay’s most creative, food-forward, and community-driven corners, and Buskers Fest has grown right alongside it.
Oh, and did we mention attendance is 100% FREE. Whether you’re two or ninety-two, this is the kind of event that makes you feel like a kid again. It’s been ten years in the making, and it’s going to be unforgettable. For the full lineup of performances and details visit: buskersfestival.ca
